Hendricks gets extended by Cubs

The Chicago Cubs and lefty Kyle Hendricks have agreed to a 4 year extension, according to Ken Rosenthal. The deal is reportedly worth $55.5 million. There is an option for a 5th year, which would be 2024. This season is the final year of Hendricks' current contract. If the 2024 option is used, Hendricks would get $16 million. There are incentives for where he finishes in Cy Young voting that can max the deal out at $79.8 million.

The 29 year old is coming off a 2018 season where he cemented himself as one of the Cubs most reliable pitchers. He went 14-11 over a team leading 199 innings, and had a 3.44 ERA. Hendricks averages less than 90 mph on his fastball, but boy oh boy, he can paint the corners efficiently. Hendricks has gone 52-33 with a 3.07 ERA over 789 innings since joining the Cubs in 2014.
