Maldonado signs with Royals

Now, all the power bats are off the market. The Kansas City Royals have signed C Martin Maldonado to a 1 year, $2.5 million contract, first reported by Ken Rosenthal. Maldonado can earn an additional $1.4 million in performance bonuses if he catches at least 100 games this season.

He would earn $3.9 million dollars with the performance bonus, which is what he earned last year. The Royals signed Maldonado after their star C Salvador Perez underwent Tommy John surgery. He is out for the entire 2019 season.

Maldonado hit .225 last season, playing for the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros. He had nine home runs and 44 RBI last season as well. He also won a gold glove in 2017 and threw out 48 percent of would be base stealers last season, leading MLB.
