Eflin throws complete game as Phillies take down Marlins

Two weeks ago in Miami, Zach Eflin allowed 10 hits, including 3 homers and 6 runs in 4 innings. Eflin learned from that performance "Don't throw it down the middle every single time.'' Eflin took his own advice, as he threw a 7 hit, 1 run complete game as the Phillies rolled over Miami, 5-1. Eflin struck out 3 batters during his outing, and didn't get into much trouble. This complete game was Eflin's 3rd, and first since 2016, when he shut out the Pirates in his rookie year.

Despite the Phillies scoring 5 runs, they only had 4 hits all game. SS Jean Segura had 3, with one of them being an RBI Triple, and he scored twice. After losing the series opener, the Phillies won the final 3 games to take the series from Miami. The other Philly hit went to Rhys Hoskins, who doubled to left-center, scoring Bryce Harper in the first inning. Segura's RBI Triple came in the 3rd inning, scoring Andrew McCutchen. He scored later that inning on a Bryce Harper groundout and he also scored in the 6th on a wild pitch that put the Phillies ahead 4-1.

Miami's only run came on an infield single in the 4th by Miguel Rojas. Bryce Harper's run scoring groundout gave him 20 RBI, making it the first time in franchise history that 3 Phillies have driven in at least 20 runs in April. The other 2 are Rhys Hoskins and Maikel Franco. The Phillies also have 98 extra base hits this month. Marlins righty Sandy Alcantara will start the 2 game series against Cleveland on Tuesday night in Miami, and the Phillies will send righty Vince Velasquez to the mound on Tuesday to start a 2 game series against the Detroit Tigers.
