Quick Snippets Episode 1

Throughout the season, I will be evaluating how each team is doing in a series called quick snippets. Quick Snippets is basically a couple sentences looking at what is going on with each team throughout the season. This is part 1

Boston Red Sox
They have started in a bit of a funk, but have started to turn it around after playing at Fenway. The pitching has been weak, but David Price, Ryan Brasier, and Matt Barnes helped shut out the Orioles today. Mitch Moreland has been a godsend, but the bats need to pick it up if the BoSox want to improve.

New York Yankees
The Yankees had the easiest schedule to start this year, and they have not capitalized on it. I know they have had a lot of injuries, but baserunning miscues and mental mistakes keep undoing the Pinstripes.

Baltimore Orioles
Chris Davis set a record for hitless at bats, but they had a surprisingly good start to the season. They are still expected to fall down to the AL East Basement with Toronto

Toronto Blue Jays
They are bad. They were almost no-hit by the Orioles of all teams, and their pitching hasn't been good. The Bats have been almost record cold lately, and their best prospect is still around a year away.

Tampa Bay Rays
They are leading the AL East so far, thanks to a cost controlled and efficient lineup. Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Charlie Morton are pitching cornerstones. I'm getting kinda sick of the "opener" thing that they have been overusing.

Cleveland Indians
They haven't been as good as they should be. Trevor Bauer hasn't had the best start to the season, and the bats haven't been very good. The Twins will keep the Tribe on their toes all year

Minnesota Twins
They have had a good start to the season. Jose Berrios and Marwin Gonzalez in particular. Byron Buxton seems to be in 2017 form, and CJ Cron hit his first homer today. Things are looking up.

Detroit Tigers
This is a team. That is the only positive thing I can say about them. Yikes.

Kansas City Royals
This team has been 3 players since Salvador Perez went down. Whit Merrifield, Adalberto Mondesi, Billy Hamilton.

Chicago White Sox
This year will be the year that they transition from the basement to about 3rd in the AL Central. Don't fret Chicago, the fruits of the farm system will soon be ready for harvest.

Los Angeles Angels
They have had a down start to the season, despite Mike Trout doing typical Mike Trout things. If it helps, Shohei Ohtani is almost back/

Houston Astros
They started off in a bit of a funk, and then quickly snapped out of it by sweeping the Yankees. Jose Altuve in particular has been raking, and this team is once again loaded. The scary part is, there's more coming in the farm system.

Oakland Athletics
They haven't been as good as people thought, but they still have a lot of promise. Matt Chapman is a franchise cornerstone, and Ramon Laureano has had a hot start to the season in center field. The other Khris Davis is continuing to mash at the plate as well.

Texas Rangers
They have been a pleasant surprise so far, starting off hot. They may be starting to cool down as the rest of the AL West is starting to heat up however. Expect the basement for Texas.

Seattle Mariners
Everyone thought the Mariners would be bad. So far, that is far from the case. Everyone is mashing and the pitching staff is showing promise. Don't look now, but they're leading the AL West.

Washington Nationals
They have a lot of talent still, but the start of the year has been not good for DC. They seem to be doing a little better, but only time will tell the fate of the Nats.

Atlanta Braves
These guys just locked up Acuna and Albies for the long term, and Freddie Freeman is still here. Look for them to win the NL East again and maybe make a deeper playoff run.

New York Mets
The Mets have looked solid, and everyone hasn't gotten injured yet. The Mets fans can breathe a sigh of relief, for now at least.

Miami Marlins
If you are subject to watching the Marlins play baseball, I would file a lawsuit for cruel and unusual punishment. These guys are bad. Real bad

Philadelphia Philles
JT Realmuto and Bryce Harper are proving their worth so far, and Aaron Nola looks to be a favorite for the Cy Young. Things are looking good in Philly. Maybe Seranhony Dominguez will continue to produce.

St.Louis Cardinals
Ozuna and Bader are producing, and Paul Goldschmidt hasn't really been too special, but he's been OK so far. Jordan Hicks is blowing people away with his fastball, and a wild card berth is within reach for the Red Birds

Cincinnati Reds
The Other Red team has been decent to start the year. Eugenio Suarez and Joey Votto have looked impressive, and the starting pitching hasn't been terrible. They'll be better in a few years once their top prospects, like Nick Senzel, make the big leagues.

Chicago Cubs
They have had a slow start to the season, despite all their talent, and Joe Maddon's job may be in jeopardy if he can't right the ship. They have looked better lately, and they need to keep it up to have a chance at the playoffs.

Milwaukee Brewers
These guys have been good so far. The lineup remains dominant, and Josh Hader remains dominant in the bullpen. The starting pitching is still questionable however, but a repeat NL Central title is in reach.

Pittsburgh Pirates
They haven't been terrible. Chris Archer started a brawl, and the hitting hasn't been too impressive. Despite this, they aren't terrible. Yet.

Colorado Rockies
German Marquez almost had a no hitter today, and Kyle Freeland is still dominant. Jon Gray needs to pick it up, however. The lineup has performed rather nicely, and there would be a problem if they weren't, considering they play at Coors Field.

Los Angeles Dodgers
Cody Bellinger continues raking, and Max Muncy is still a beast. Clayton Kershaw is back, along with Corey Seager, and these guys are once again favorites in the NL West.

San Diego Padres
Tatis, Machado, and Hosmer anchor the lineup. Chris Paddack has done good in his rookie season so far. I don't think they'll make the playoffs this year, but they have the best farm system in baseball, so it's only a matter of time.

Arizona Diamondbacks
These guys kinda blew it up this offseason, so they shouldn't make the playoffs. At least they aren't terrible, but they aren't that good either.

San Francisco Giants
These guys aren't looking good this year. Their renaissance is over, as genius GM Brian Sabean is gone, and Bruce Bochy is retiring at the end of the year. Buster Posey is discontent, and that's not good, since he's the best they've got on the offense. Expect last in the NL West.
