Shoemaker tears ACL, done for season

Toronto Blue Jays RHP Matt Shoemaker will miss the rest of this season with a torn ACL, the team announced yesterday. Shoemaker suffered the injury during a rundown in Saturday's win over the Oakland Athletics. He was placed on the 10 day IL yesterday with what was first called a left knee sprain. Shoemaker has an unfortunate injury history that includes a skull fracture and hematoma.

Shoemaker will visit a doctor in Toronto to determine the next few steps. Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoya said that "No, we don't know what we're going to do. We just found out. He had his MRI today and we just found out, Bad news, bad news. He was one of the best pitchers in baseball ... tough loss for us." It was a tough loss indeed, as Shoemaker was off to a hot start in 2019, with a 3-0 record and 1.57 ERA in 28 2/3 innings. Shoemaker signed a 1 year deal with Toronto in December.
