Wainwright heats up, Cards sweep away Brew Crew

On a cool day in St.Louis, Adam Wainwright was hot enough to beat the Brewers and secure a sweep. Wainwright allowed 1 run over 6 innings for his 150th career win as the Cardinals beat the Brewers 5-2 yesterday. After the game, Wainwright said that ''It means something to me, I'm proud to have been a Cardinal for the whole time of it, too, and I'm proud to win most of those with my brother Yadier Molina and a lot of those in front of these great fans in St. Louis.''

Jordan Hicks got the save with a strikeout of the reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich with the bases loaded in the 9th. Hicks, well known for his 100mph fastball, only threw one fastball, getting Yelich on a changeup. The Brewers had the bases loaded with 2 outs in a 5-1 game, and Ben Gamel walked, scoring a run and setting up the Hicks-Yelich matchup.

Marcell Ozuna and Yadier Molina homered as part of a 4 run 4th inning for St.Louis. This was Ozuna's 17th homer against the Brewers, his most against any team. Molina's homer gave him a 12 game hitting streak, tying him with teammate Paul DeJong for longest by a Cardinal this year. Paul Goldschmidt started with a single, making his hit streak 11 games.

Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin lasted only 4 innings. Zach Davies was the last Brewer to put in a quality start, on April 13. Brewer starters have gone 8-7 this year with a 5.84 ERA. They did sign one of the more reliable arms in Gio Gonzalez, so they will be getting some help. Eric Thames homered in the first inning, so the Brewers last 23 runs have come via the long ball.
