The Los Angeles Angels are expecting to active reigning rookie of the year pitcher/hitter Shohei Ohtani during their upcoming road trip, manager Brad Ausmus said. The Angels play the Astros in Monterrey, Mexico for 2 games starting Saturday, and then go on the road to play the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, and Minnesota Twins. Ohtani has already been ruled out for the two games in Mexico.

Ohtani said through translator Ippei Mizuhara that "It is disappointing, but it is what it is, I have to wait it out and be ready when they call my name." Tuesday's game against the Tigers is the earliest Ohtani can return, as the team wants him to get at least 40 plate appearances in simulated games before he becomes the team's regular DH. Ohtani won't pitch this season, as he is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
