Jorge Polanco had 5 hits, including a homer, Kyle Gibson struck out 11 batters, and the Twins rolled to a 9-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays last night. Polanco's 5 hit game put him in some good company. Polanco is the 5th player in Twins history to have two 5 hit games in a season. The others are Kirby Puckett, Tony Oliva, Denard Span, and Joe Mauer. Polanco singled 3 times, doubled, and homered.

Eddie Rosario got the Twins on the board early with a sac fly to score Max Kepler. Polanco hit a 2 run homer in the 2nd to make it 3-0 Twins. In the 3rd, CJ Cron and Jonathan Schoop both hit 2 run bombs to make it 7-0. In the 5th, Billy McKinney homered for the Blue Jays to get their only run of the evening. In the 6th, Rosario hit a 2 run homer to make it 9-1 to finish off the scoring. Gibson said after the game that ''We're in a really good groove right now where guys are really focused and have a really consistent approach."

Thanks to this recent surge, the Twins have the best record in baseball at 23-12. Polanco said of the record, That's awesome, that's what we want, that's why we're here and what we're competing for, to be in first place.'' Rosario's homer in the 6th was his AL-leading 13th, as the Twins recorded 18 hits, one shy of their season high. Toronto has lost 5 straight and 8 of 9. Gibson struck out the side in the first and fourth innings and threw 88 pitches, 62 of them were strikes. Manager Rocco Baldelli said that ''When you get starts like that, the odds are on your side."

After a day off today, the Twins send Jake Odorizzi to the mound on Friday as the Twins go back home to face the Detroit Tigers. Odorizzi has won his last 4 starts and hasn't given up a run in 13 innings. Clay Buchholz starts for the Jays on Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
