Hendricks dominates Cardinals with shutout

The Cubs sent Kyle Hendricks, aka "the professor" to the mound in today's afternoon game against the St.Louis Cardinals, and he taught every pitcher a lesson on dominance. Hendricks allowed only 4 hits and finished with a complete game shutout after only 81 pitches. This is the league's first "Maddux" of the 2019 season. The term, invented by Jason Lukehart, refers to when a pitcher throws a complete game shutout in under 100 pitches.

This game was a rebound for Hendricks, who allowed 7 runs his last start. Hendricks said after the game "I just got a little bit lucky today, honestly, I made a lot of good pitches early. ... I got away with a few. But overall, the focus on just making a good pitch was a lot better today." This is the 13th Maddux in Cubs history and the first of Hendricks' career. The most recent Cubs Maddux was thrown by Carlos Zambrano on September 25, 2009. Hendricks is 2-4 to start the season, with a 3.93 ERA over 34 1/3 innings.
