JD Martinez homered twice, rookie Michael Chavis drove in 5 runs, and the surging Boston Red Sox beat the slumping Seattle Mariners 11-2 to sweep them at Fenway and win the season series. The Red Sox have won 5 straight and 16 of 22 overall. Seattle has lost 4 in a row and 15 of 19.

After the Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Martinez homered, Chavis singled home Xander Bogaerts, and Rafael Devers scored on a passed ball to give Boston a 3-1 lead. In the second, Mookie Betts hit a fly ball to right fielder Jay Bruce, which Bruce dropped, scoring Andrew Benintendi. In the 5th, Chavis singled home Bogaerts and Devers to make it 6-1. After Betts scored on a grounder in the 7th, Chavis singled home Martinez and Bogaerts to make it 9-1. In the 8th, Martinez homered again to make it 11-2.

Seattle's only runs came on an Edwin Encarnacion sac fly in the first and an Omar Narvaez homer in the 5th. Marco Gonzales gave up 4 runs in 4 innings. Seattle's defense was horrendous today, with 5 errors. Jay Bruce dropped a fly ball, and Shed Long couldn't catch two pop flies. The Mariners have also placed Felix Hernandez on the IL. Yusei Kikuchi will start for Seattle tomorrow against Oakland, while Chris Sale gets the start for Boston on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies after a day off.
