Sandy Alcantara threw a complete game shutout as the worst team in baseball, the Miami Marlins, completed a sweep of the New York Mets. The game took 1 hour, 59 minutes, and Alcantara threw 89 pitches, which is a Maddux. The Mets are only 5-11 in May and have been shut out 4 times this month. Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs on 5 hits in 7 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu has extended his scoreless streak to 31 innings with 7 shutout innings in the Dodgers' 8-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Manager Dave Roberts said that ''He's just locked in right now with all of his pitches, It's fun to watch. He's healthy. The conditions, the situations don't matter.'' Ryu said through a translator that ''I wasn't crisp, especially early in the game, there was a lot of traffic out there. I was able to execute the right pitches at the right time.''

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig suffered a right shoulder sprain after colliding with the right field wall in the Reds' 8-3 loss today. He leaped onto the wall to make a catch with the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th inning. He immediately went to the ground, clearly in pain. Manager David Bell officially listed Puig as day to day and is hopeful he'll avoid a trip to the IL.

The Chicago Cubs have dropped the protest of their loss to the Washington Nationals last night. Manager Joe Maddon originally protested with complaints about Sean Doolittle's pitching motion in the 9th inning, talking to the umpires multiple times. See my post about the protest here

The rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays is back. Yankees reliever Chance Adams hit the Rays' Yandy Diaz on the hand in the Rays' 13-5 loss today, and Diaz thought there was intent behind it. Diaz said that  "I don't know why. Maybe because I hit two home runs off them at home on May 11." This incident comes two days after CC Sabathia threw behind Austin Meadows, in which Sabathia seemed to have said that he was "trying to hit his ass." That came after Sabathia said that he was angered with the Rays' Yonny Chirinos for hitting Luke Voit. Sabathia got a 5 game suspension at the end of last season for hitting the Rays' Jesus Sucre. Diaz is listed as day to day after x-rays came back negative.
