Another reason the Minnesota Twins have been so good this season is the starting pitching. Jake Odorizzi extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings with 7 dominant innings, giving up only one hit as the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 6-0 last night. Max Kepler and Mitch Garver added homers for the Twins.

After a first inning double by Christin Stewart, Odorizzi retired his last 20 batters. His ERA is now a career best 2.32. Odorizzi has beaten such teams as the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros during his run of dominance, as Jose Berrios, Martin Perez, and Kyle Gibson have also put up dominant numbers in the rotation.

Jorge Polanco drove in 3 runs for the Twins, including a 2 run double in the 3rd inning. The Twins, who are 24-12 and have the best record in baseball, are 12 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2010 season. Garver, one of the 3 Twins catchers who as a whole have been the most productive with the bat this season, hit a 2 run homer in the 4th off Tigers starter Tyson Ross for his 8th homer in 21 games. Kepler homered in the 5th. The Twins are 4th in the majors in homers and are poised to break the team record of 225, which was set in 1963.

The Tigers were shut out for the second straight game and an AL most 5th time this year. Ross gave up 6 runs in 5 innings, walking 4 batters and only striking out 2, pushing his ERA up to 6.11. Marwin Gonzalez was trying to leg out an infield single in the 6th inning for the Twins, and Ross, trying to throw him out, threw the ball away. When Tigers first baseman Niko Goodrum tried to jump to catch the ball, he hit Gonzalez in the face with his leg. both players left the game, with Gonzalez showing no signs of concussion and Goodrum bruised his knee.

These teams will play a day-night doubleheader today as a result of a cancellation on April 12, with the Tigers sending righy Spencer Turnbull to the mound in the first game against the Twins' Michael Pineda. Detroit will send lefty Gregory Soto to the mound in the second game against the Twins' Kohl Stewart. This will be Soto's MLB debut, and Stewart will be called up from Triple A Rochester prior to the night game.
