Yesterday, it was Chris Sale. Tonight, it was all about the bate for the Red Sox. Prior to tonight, the Red Sox had scored 9 or more runs in a game twice all year. The 3rd inning of tonight's game seemingly was the offense making up for lost time. With 2 outs in the top of the 3rd, the bats awoke with a vengeance, rattling off 9 runs in a decisive 15-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

It started with Christian Vazquez on second base and Andrew Benintendi on first, with the Red Sox down 1-0, and Mookie Betts hit a double down the left field line, scoring both and making it 2-1 Red Sox. JD Martinez then promptly doubled Betts home, making it 3-1. Next, Xander Bogaerts drilled a homer to left center field, and then Michael Chavis homered immediately following Bogaerts, making it 6-1 Red Sox. With Rafael Devers on second, Steve Pearce singled to left, scoring Devers and making it 7-1. Then, Eduardo Nunez, fresh off a rehab assignment, ripped a 2 run homer, making it 9-1.

It didn't stop with just the 9. In the top of the 4th, Michael Chavis singled home JD Martinez, and then Rafael Devers scored Xander Bogaerts by way of a fielding error by Jose Abreu, making it 11-1 Boston. Steve Pearce came up and singled home Chavis, and Nunez reached on a fielder's choice to score Devers, making it 13-1. Andrew Benintendi doubled home Pearce, and Chavis hit his second bomb of the night to make it 15-1 in the fourth inning.

Starter Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 6 innings of one run ball, with Tyler Thornburg giving up the other run on a Jose Abreu homer. Hector Velazquez finished the job in the 9th by getting Ryan Cordell to ground out, and the Sox won rather convincingly. The Red Sox are heating up now too, having won 7 of their last 11 games, and the starting pitching and the offense are coming alive at the right time for the defending champs, who are now 15-18.
