Hyun-Jin Ryu took a no hitter into the 8th inning, Corey Seager hit a grand slam, and the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Washington Nationals 6-0 today. Gerardo Parra broke up the no hitter for Ryu with a double in the 8th innings. That was the Nationals' only hit of the day. The only other baserunner was Brian Dozier, who walked in the fourth.

Ryu struck out 9 in 8 innings and threw 116 pitches, a career high. This was the second time Ryu carried a no hitter into the 8th inning at Dodger Stadium. The other occasion was in 2014 against the Cincinnati Reds, when Todd Frazier doubled to lead off the 8th inning to break up the bid. Cody Bellinger kept the no hitter intact in the top of the 6th, when Stephen Strasburg appeared to hit a single to right field. Bellinger got to the ball quickly and threw out Strasburg at first for the rare 9-3 putout.

Corey Seager got the scoring started in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Bellinger and making it 1-0. Alex Verdugo grounded out in the fourth inning to score Justin Turner and make it 2-0. Seager broke the game open in the 8th with a grand slam to right field on a 2-1 count, scoring Bellinger, Turner, and Verdugo. The grand slam was Seager's second in his career.

Strasburg gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 6 innings pitched, and didn't give up a hit until Turner singled in the fourth inning. The Nationals will send Jeremy Hellickson to the mound on Tuesday against the New York Mets at Nationals Park on Tuesday after a day off. After a day off tomorrow, Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers against the San Diego Padres to start a brief two game series.
