Chris Sale snapped out of his early season slump to earn his first win with a dazzling performance against his former team, throwing 6 innings of 3 hit ball as the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 6-1 last night. Sale entered the game with a 6.30 ERA, but struck out a season high 10 batters as the Sox offense was able to back him up. Sale didn't allow a hit until Yoan Moncada, a prospect traded for Sale, lined a single in the 4th inning. Sale said that ''Just kind of got back to some old things I used to do and made me successful, and changed a couple of things."

Rafael Devers started the scoring early for the Red Sox, taking a pitch from White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez and crushing it to deep center field for his first homer of the season, putting the Red Sox up 3-0 early, before Sale took the mound. In the top of the 6th, Michael Chavis stood in against Lopez and took a pitch and demolished it to left field for a 2 run homer, making it 5-0 Boston. Chavis' homer was his 4th, and it went 459 feet. Chavis has looked good in this sample size, and he could be playing on borrowed time with Dustin Pedroia and Brock Holt out of commission. Still, Chavis is quite the hitter. Mookie Betts walked with the bases loaded to make it 6-0.

Sale walked one batter and hit two as he improved to 2-1 against his former team in his career. Tzu-Wei Lin has been placed on the 10 day IL for Boston after he was tagged out trying to steal second base, hooking his left foot awkwardly around second base. He was diagnosed with a left knee sprain. Eduardo Nunez was activated from the IL and will rejoin the Red Sox in Chicago. Eduardo Rodriguez will get the start for Boston tonight against Chicago's Manny Banuelos. First pitch is at 7:10 eastern time.
