Matt Adams homered twice and drove in 7 runs, Anibal Sanchez got his 100th win, and the Washington Nationals topped the Arizona Diamondbacks 15-5 on Father's day. Adams' father was in attendance, as he is every father's day, and got to watch his son work his magic, capped by an 8th inning grand slam. Anthony Rendon and Kurt Suzuki also homered against Arizona pitching. Adams said of his father ''It's something special to be able to have a game like this, career-high RBIs and to be able to have him in the stands."

Ketel Marte continued his case for the all star game by homering in the first inning to give Arizona a 1-0 lead early. Howie Kendrick then hit an RBI single and Suzuki singled in 2 to give the Nats a 3-1 lead. In the second, Eaton singled in a run, and Adams hit a 3 run homer in the 3rd to make it 7-1 Nats. In the 5th, after Arizona got a run, Suzuki homered to right to grab that run back and make it 8-2. In the 6th, Rendon hit a 2 run homer to make it 10-2. Arizona got another run in the 7th on an Eduardo Escobar single to make it 10-3. In the 8th, Kendrick singled in Eaton, and then Adams hit a second deck grand slam to make it 11-3. The D-Backs got their final 2 runs in the 9th off RBI singles by Ildemaro Vargas and Carson Kelly.

Sanchez went 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3 batters. Sanchez is now 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA since being activated from the IL. He is the second Nats pitcher to get to 100 wins this month, with Stephen Strasburg being the other. Archie Bradley got the loss for the Diamondbacks, lasting only 1 1/3 innings with 4 runs allowed. Bradley said that "Today I stood on the mound and I threw the ball where I wanted to. I saw the pitches I wanted to throw. They kind of hit them today. It wasn't necessarily like I got crushed. They just hit them where we weren't, and I kind of put us in a hole early.''

After a day off on Monday, the D-Backs head home to take on their NL West rival Colorado Rockies for 3 games. Merrill Kelly will start the opening game for Arizona. The Nationals welcome the NL East rival Philadelphia Philles to town, and will send lefty Patrick Corbin to the mound in the first of 4 games.
