Mike Soroka is on a roll. He won his 8th straight decision, Ozzie Albies drove in 4 runs, and the surging Atlanta Braves toppled the New York Mets last night by a 12-3 score. Nick Markakis hit a 2 run single in the 5th, and Brian McCann reached 5 times as the NL East leading Braves improved to 13-3 this month. They have also won 10 of their last 11 games.

The Braves got on the board early, with a Ronald Acuna homer and Freddie Freeman scoring on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0. In the 3rd, Pete Alonso hit an RBI single, and Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler also singled in a run in the 5th to make it 2-2. In the bottom half, Markakis hit a 2 run single and Albies singled home Markakis to make it 5-2. In the 6th, Robinson Cano homered to make it 5-3. That was it for the Mets. In the 7th, Albies singled in 2 runs, McCann scored on an infield hit by Acuna, and Albies scored on a bases loaded walk by Freeman to make it 9-3. In the 8th, McCann hit a 2 run homer and Albies hit a solo bomb to make it 12-3.

Soroka gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, and allowed just his third homer of the season to Cano in the 6th. He walked one and struck out 2 over 6 innings. Soroka said that ''The last couple of times I haven't had the best feel for my slider, and a lot of times that's the pitch we need for some strikeouts, but you keep attacking. It was good with the sinker and the changeup today. You're still going to keep them off balance and you're going to get outs.'' Wheeler allowed 5 runs and 10 hits over 6 innings of work for the Mets.

Mets reliever Jeurys Familia allowed 3 runs to raise his ERA to a horrendous 16.50 over his last 6 innings. Manager Mickey Callaway said that ''We just stunk, again we weren't good. We've got to recalibrate what we're doing and we have to do the job better. That's just plain and simple.'' Jacob Degrom will take the hill against Atlanta in game two, while Atlanta sends Julio Teheran to the mound. Braves manager Brian Snitker also added that newly signed lefty Dallas Keuchel will make his Braves debut on Friday against the Washington Nationals.
