Walker Buehler never let up. He struck out Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado in the 9th inning on a 97 mph fastball to cap a dominant 16 strikeout performance, Matt Beaty hit a walkoff homer, and the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Colorado Rockies 4-2. This was Buehler's first complete game of his career. He said after that ''Just checking another box for me."

With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Max Muncy drew a walk, and that set the stage for Beaty, and he capitalized. Beaty said that ''Max having a really good at-bat gave me confidence." He also said that ''It just felt like I was floating around the bases, hitting a walk-off homer is no better feeling.'' Beaty was recalled from Triple A Oklahoma City prior to the game. Buehler threw 111 pitches over the 9 innings, and only allowed 3 hits, two of which were homers. His scoreless innings streak ended at 20 on Arenado's homer in the 4th.

The Dodgers have now won 9 in a row against the Rockies, and improved to 52-25 on the season. That is the second best start in team history, trailing the 1974 team that began 53-24. The Rockies started German Marquez, and Marquez and Buehler faced off in a rare game 163 last year to decide who would win the NL west, and the Dodgers came out on top in that game. Neither starter gave up a walk last night. Rockies manager Bud Black said that 'That was a great matchup between two young starting pitchers that are two of the best in baseball."

Peter Lambert will make his 4th start of the season for game two of the series. Lambert won his first two starts against the Cubs and had a no decision against the San Diego Padres. Hyun-Jin Ryu starts the second game for the Dodgers.
