Jon Lester returned to form, throwing 7 innings of one run ball as he didn't even give the Los Angeles Angels offense a chance to get going as the Chicago Cubs easily defeated them 8-1. After being swept by the St.Louis Cardinals in which they only scored 6 runs, the Cubs bounced back, having a 5 run 6th inning en route to victory. Lester allowed 4 hits, walked one, and struck out 6 batters.

In the 6th, with the Cubs ahead 1-0, Javier Baez doubled home Kris Bryant to make it 2-0. Jason Heyward later doubled to score Baez and newly signed Carlos Gonzalez to make it 4-0. After an Addison Russell sac fly, Kyle Schwarber singled home Heyward to make it 6-0. In the 7th, after the Angels scored, Baez and Willson Contreras homered to make it the final of 8-1.

Lester had a rough go lately, with his last 3 starts before all being losses. After increasing his ERA to 3.59 before the game, he dropped it to 3.32 with his performance today. Former cub Trevor Cahill was charged with the loss, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and two walks. Cahill has one win in his last 9 appearances. The Angels send righty Griffin Canning to the mound tomorrow night as they start a series against the Oakland Athletics. Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs tomorrow as they take on the Colorado Rockies.
