Eduardo Rodriguez piled on the innings, Brock Holt drove in 3 runs, and the Boston Red Sox took two of three games from the best team in baseball, the Minnesota Twins, with the win last night. After a 17 inning loss to the Twins, the Boston bullpen needed a deep outing from E-Rod, and he delivered. He allowed 4 runs over 8 hits and 7 innings pitched. Rodriguez said that ''It means a lot to save the bullpen, go out there and give seven innings, I think for me, it's something I've tried to do a long time. I had a chance the last two starts to help the bullpen and feel really good with that.''

The Twins struck first in the first inning with an Eddie Rosario RBI single. In the second, Holt singled in a run, Michael Chavis singled in a run, and Holt scored on an infield single by Mookie Betts to make it 3-1. In the 3rd, Luis Arraez cut the deficit to one with an RBI single, and the Twins took a 4-3 lead in the 4th thanks to homers by Willians Astudillo and Max Kepler. In the 5th, Xander Bogaerts doubled a run in to tie, and then Boston took the 5-4 lead on a Holt sac fly, a lead they wouldn't give up. Chavis singled in a run later in the inning to make it 6-4. In the 8th, Andrew Benintendi doubled in a run, JD Martinez singled in a run, and Holt drew a bases loaded walk to make it 9-4, which held.

Don't look now, but the Red Sox have won 7 of 8, while the Twins have now lost 3 of 4 and lost a home series for just the second time all year. Kyle Gibson went 4 1/3 innings and gave up 6 runs on 7 hits. He was unable to take a load off the Twins bullpen. Gibson said that ''That might have been some of the worst stuff I've had in quite a while, frustrating night knowing that anything that looked like a quality start was a win, unfortunately, but I didn't get it done.''

After Kepler homered to give the Twins a 4-3 lead, Rodriguez retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that ''Ultimately, he was able to persevere through some innings where he had to work a little bit, early on, we thought maybe we'd have the opportunity to get to him with the kinds of at-bats we were having. Ultimately, he did a nice job." The Red Sox return home to welcome the Toronto Blue Jays to town for a 3 game series, where Chris Sale starts the first game. The Twins head to Kansas City for a 4 game series, where Jake Odorizzi will start the first game.
