Revenge for the 2017 ALDS? It's very possible. Oscar Mercado homered to break a 5th inning tie and the Cleveland Indians defeated the New York Yankees 8-4. Roberto Perez homered in his 4th straight game for the Indians as they have now won 4 of 5, and 6 of their last 10. The Yankees, who welcomed Didi Gregorius back from the IL last night, have now lost 5 of 6. Yankee starter CC Sabathia left the game in the 5th after appearing to injure his left leg fielding a grounder.

Gregorius got the scoring started in the first inning with his first homer of the year to put New York up 2-0. It stayed that way until the 4th, when Jose Ramirez hit a sac fly and Perez doubled to center to tie the game at 2. In the 5th, Mercado hit a 2 run homer to make it 4-2 Cleveland, and Perez and Kevin Plawecki homered in the 6th to make it 7-2. The Yankees scored two more in the 7th off a Gleyber Torres double and a Gio Urshela sac fly. In the 8th, Plawecki hit a sac fly to make the score 8-4, which ended up holding.

Adam Plutko, called up prior to the game, set down 16 of 17 hitters after Gregorius' homer. He also set down the last 10 hitters, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings pitched to get the win. The Indians send Shane Bieber to the mound tomorrow in the series finale, while the Yankees have yet to determine a starter after placing scheduled starter Masahiro Tanaka on the paternity leave list.
