Lambert locks up Cubs

Peter Lambert has had two starts in his major league career. Both have come against the Chicago Cubs. He has locked them up both times. Lambert went 5 innings, allowing one run as the Rockies beat the Cubs 10-3 in Lambert's Coors Field debut. His first MLB start, at Wrigley Field, he pitched 7 innings, also allowing only one run. Cubs Shortstop Javier Baez said that ''He was getting outs, things went their way."

Daniel Murphy led the Rockies offense with 3 hits, and Charlie Blackmon added a 3 run homer in a 5 run 6th inning. Lambert kept the Cubs bats guessing, with several offspeed pitches to compliment his fastball. His only mistake came in the second inning, when Jason Heyward lined a homer to left field. In the fourth inning, Lambert sprinted off the mound for a pop foul, and dove for the ball near the first base dugout, and his left knee dug into the turf. He was limping for a little bit, and his knee started bothering him in the 5th, and Lambert was able to finish the inning with a strikeout of Anthony Rizzo to end his night.

Lambert said after the game that ''I thought it went well. Pitching here at Coors Field was pretty awesome, in front of the home crowd, I thought I made some good pitches when I needed to." Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that ''We have not figured him out well, I'm not going to denigrate him; I think he's pretty good.'' Jose Quintana allowed 4 runs over 4 2/3 innings. He has faced Lambert both times, and lost both times. The Cubs will send lefty Cole Hamels to the mound in the series finale, while the Rockies counter with righty Antonio Senzatela.
