Don't look now, but the Washington Nationals may be picking up steam. The Nationals defeated former teammate Tanner Roark in a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds yesterday. The Nats have now won 6 out of their last 10 games. Roark was responsible for both of the Reds' runs.

Parra started the scoring in the second inning with a 3 run homer to right field. In the 4th, Matt Adams added a homer to make it 4-1 Nats, and Brian Dozier homered in the 9th to make it 5-2. Parra's homer ended Roark's streak of not allowing a homer at 36 2/3 innings. Adams' homer made him 6-12 in his career against Roark.

Roark got the first Reds run in the second inning with a squeeze bunt, scoring Jose Iglesias. Roark also homered in the 4th inning for the other run scored by Cincinnati. Roark said that ''I felt like my emotions were under control, it's definitely a tough loss. The bunt and the home run felt good. I would've rather have won the game.'' Tanner Rainey, who was traded to the Nats in exchange for Roark, got the win for Washington. Rainey entered in the 5th after Eric Fedde got through 4 2/3 innings.

The Nats, hoping to win their 7th in 11 games, send Max Scherzer to the mound today, who despite having no decisions in his last two starts, has allowed just one run in his last 12 innings pitched. The Reds will send lefty Sonny Gray to the mound, who has won his last two starts, also allowing one run in his last 12 innings.
