When the Boston Red Sox were down 6-1 against the Texas Rangers, they slugged their way to victory. Xander Bogaerts hit a solo homer in the 7th inning to put Boston ahead for the first time all night, 7-6, a lead they held on to. Manager Alex Cora said afterward that ''We found a way to win today instead of finding a way to lose." 5 players homered for the Sox as they earned a series split with the Rangers.

The Rangers jumped ahead in the first with an RBI single by Elvis Andrus, an RBI double by Hunter Pence, and a 2 run single by Logan Forsythe to make it 4-0. JD Martinez homered in the bottom of the first to make it 4-1 Rangers. In the second, Andrus hit a 2 run single to make it 6-1, at which point Cora pulled starter David Price. In the bottom of the second, Jackie Bradley ripped a 3 run homer to make it 6-4, and the Sox were right back in it. In the 4th, Michael Chavis ripped a pitch to left field that everyone thought would go foul, but it curved fair to land in the green monster stands for a solo homer to make it a one run game. In the 5th, Rafael Devers crunched a homer to center field to tie the game at 6. In the 7th, Bogaerts homered to give Boston the lead.

Brandon Workman got the win for the Red Sox, and they used their bullpen heavily after Price left. Mike Shawaryn, Colten Brewer, Travis Lakins, Workman, and Josh Smith are among those who pitched for Boston. Red Sox pitchers have struggled with command this series, and this is the second straight game the Rangers have lost by one run. Manager Chris Woodward said that ''We had a chance, honestly, to win all four games. We had a chance to sweep them, you've got a 6-1 lead against this team, you've got to beat them.''

The Rangers head to Cincinnati for a 3 game series, where Jesse Chavez will start the opening game. The Red Sox head to Baltimore to face the Orioles, where Eduardo Rodriguez will start the first game. Rodriguez is the only Boston pitcher with 6 wins this season. Boston will activate LHP Brian Johnson this weekend, who has been on the IL since April 6 with left elbow inflammation. Johnson will start either Saturday or Sunday.
