Chris Sale threw 9 pitches for 9 strikes in the 8th inning for his second immaculate inning of the season, and threw a complete game shutout as the Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 8-0 last night. Sale struck out 12 and allowed just 3 hits as he continues his rise ever since he had an ERA over 6 at the end of April. This was Sale's 7th double digit strikeout game this year, with his highest K total per game at 17, when he pitched against the Colorado Rockies.

In the first inning, after an RBI fielder's choice by Rafael Devers, Brock Holt singled Devers home to give Boston a 2-0 lead. In the 5th, Devers took an inside pitch all the way to the right-center field wall, scoring Andrew Benintendi and making it 3-0 on his double. Later, with the bases loaded, Jackie Bradley Jr cleared them with a 3 run double to left to make it 6-0. In the 7th, Devers continued his hot streak with a homer to center field, and Sandy Leon hit a sac fly to make it 8-0.

After the Red Sox dropped all the way back to .500 by losing the first two games against the New York Yankees, Boston has won 3 straight games, and with 3 straight Yankee losses, sit 6.5 games back of the division lead. Manager Alex Cora said that ''We did a lot of good things offensively, but we can still be better." Royals starter Jakob Junis allowed 6 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 2/3 innings of work. This is the Roayls' 5th straight loss, and they are now a dismal 19-42 on the year. Danny Duffy starts for the Royals in today's 1:15 game, while the Red Sox are using Ryan Weber as an opener with Mike Shawaryn backing him up.
