The Seattle Mariners are in full rebuild. After starting out 13-2, the team hit rock bottom, falling far below .500, and started selling. Jay Bruce was traded to Philadelphia a few weeks ago, and as the Mariners were about to take the field for last night's game against Oakland, manager Scott Servais was told Edwin Encarnacion had just been traded to the New York Yankees. Seattle also sent cash to New York in exchange for minor league pitcher Juan Then. Oh, and the Mariners got routed by the Oakland Athletics 11-2 last night.

The Mariners had a season high 4 errors, struck out 12 times, and Servais was ejected in the 4th inning after arguing balls and strikes. Servais said that ''Just a sloppy, sloppy game, we hadn't seen that in a while. We'd been playing pretty good ball this road trip. Very competitive in almost all the games, but not so much tonight.'' Frankie Montas struck out 9 Seattle hitters in 6 innings for Oakland, and Marcus Semien drove in 3 runs for the A's, extending his hitting streak to 12 games, and Jurickson Profar had 3 hits and 4 RBI.

Ramon Laureano started the scoring with a 2 run single in the first, and then Profar added another RBI single to make it 3-0 A's. In the bottom of the second, Semien homered to make it 4-1 Oakland. In the 4th, Semien hit an RBI double, Matt Chapman hit an RBI double, Khris Davis hit an RBI single, and Profar hit a 2 run single to make it 9-1. In the 6th, Mark Canha scored on a fielder's choice, and Profar scored Laureano to make it 11-2, which held.

Montas won his 5th straight start, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and one walk. He struck out Dan Vogelbach and Kyle Seager twice, and struck out the side in the 4th. Montas had 9 or more strikeouts for the 4th time in 14 starts. Manager Bob Melvin said that ''It started with Frankie, it's becoming typical. He didn't have his best command early on, but as the game went along he found it.'' Montas said that ''I'm just trying to throw strikes, and they're swinging, I worked pretty hard during the offseason and I'm starting to get better. My splitter has been especially good."

Mike Leake will take the hill for Seattle in the series finale, who will face the A's for the 11th time in his career. Leake is 5-6 with a 4.26 ERA. Oakland rookie Tanner Anderson will make his second start in the series finale. He is 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA.
