The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have played in New York twice and played two games in London. Tonight, they played at Fenway Park for the first time this season. Boy, did Boston take advantage of the home field atmosphere. Xander Bogaerts hit two homers, and the bats backed up Rick Porcello en route to a 19-3 shellacking of the Yankees. Porcello faced Masahiro Tanaka in a rematch of game one of the London series, when both pitchers failed to record one inning of pitching. Porcello left after getting one out and Tanaka after two. Porcello looked better, and Tanaka looked worse.

The Sox stormed out of the gate, scoring 7 first inning runs thanks to a 451 foot homer by Bogaerts, and two run doubles by Jackie Bradley Jr and Mookie Betts. The Yanks got two in the second on a single by Gleyber Torres and a DJ Lemahieu bases loaded walk. In the 4th, Rafael Devers socked homer number 21, Michael Chavis doubled in a run, Mitch Moreland whacked a 2 run double, and Christian Vazquez added another RBI double to make it 12-2. In the 5th, after the Yankees got one more, Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI single, Chavis hit another RBI double, and Benintendi scored on a Vazquez ground out. In the 6th, Devers doubled in another run. In the 8th, the Yankees put in C Austin Romine to pitch, and Sandy Leon and Bogaerts took him deep for 3 more runs to make it 19-3.

Porcello went 6 innings for Boston, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and one walk. Tanaka took the loss, lasting 3 1/3 innings, giving up 12 runs on 12 hits and 3 walks. Darwinzon Hernandez threw a perfect 7th, Colten Brewer worked the 8th, and Nathan Eovaldi finished the Yankees in the 9th. The Red Sox sit a half game back of second place in the AL East, and 10 back of the first place Yankees. The Sox have the chance to gain some major ground in the division, as the play the Yankees three more times this weekend and the Tampa Bay Rays to start next week. Entering tonight, they sit 1 1/2 games back of the second wild card spot, and can gain more ground if the Oakland Athletics lose to the Texas Rangers tonight.

The Yankees look to rebound tomorrow night by sending lefty James Paxton to the mound. The Red Sox send Andrew Cashner to the mound as he looks for his first win in a Red Sox uniform.
