Astros throw combined no hitter against Mariners

Aaron Sanchez basically looked like a new pitcher. Sanchez threw 6 no hit innings, and the bullpen took it from there as the Houston Astros combined to no hit the Seattle Mariners 9-0 Saturday. This is the second time the Mariners have been no-hit this season, the other was the Los Angeles Angels' effort on the night honoring Tyler Skaggs. Sanchez has struggled mightily this year, with a 3-14 record prior to his Houston debut Saturday. He said ''Just trying to have a good first impression."

The offense put on a show too. In the first inning, Michael Brantley opened the scoring with a double to left field that scored George Springer. After Alex Bregman drove in a run on a groundout, Yordan Alvarez singled Brantley home to make it 3-0 early. In the 5th inning, Jose Altuve got on the scoresheet with a solo blast to right field to make it 4-0. In the 6th, Brantley whacked a 2 run double, and Yuli Gurriel added an RBI double in the 7th to make it 7-0. In the 8th, Brantley singled in a run, and Bregman tripled in a run to make it 9-0.

Sanchez struck out 6 and allowed only 2 base runners, both on walks, over his 6 innings of work. Will Harris, Joe Biagini(acquired along with Sanchez), and Chris Devenski finished what Sanchez started. Sanchez said that ''This is awesome, you can't write it up any better than this.'' The Astros have a history of making any pitcher they acquire better, and Sanchez seems to be headed down that path as well. Manager AJ Hinch insisted that they don't have magic dust.

The last Astros no hitter came on August 21, 2015, when Mike Fiers no-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ironically, Fiers was a trade deadline acquisition by Houston. Justin Verlander and Tommy Milone faced off in today's series finale, and Verlander got the win over 6 innings pitched.
