Walker Buehler struck out 11, Joc Pederson homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the San Diego Padres 9-0 Tuesday night. Catcher Russell Martin got to pitch the 9th inning for the Dodgers, and allowed just one double to keep his career ERA at 0.00. Buehler said of Martin that ''He's pretty good. He's got some spin rate. You guys should check his numbers." AJ Pollock added that ''He's not just throwing the ball up there. He's mixing in speeds, his tempo is different, he's got a quick pitch. I wouldn't want to face him. He's not your typical position player on the mound, for sure.''

Pederson got the scoring started in the 3rd inning when he cranked a solo homer to right field. In the 4th inning, Matt Beaty and Kike Hernandez both had RBI singles to increase the Dodger lead to 3-0. In the 5th, Corey Seager and Will Smith both had two run singles, and Hernandez added an RBI double to make it 8-0. In the 9th, Pollock launched a solo homer into the right field seats to make it 9-0.

Cal Quantrill got the loss for the Padres, lasting 4 1/3 innings and giving up 8 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. He only struck out one hitter. The Padres put 3B Ty France in to pitch the 9th inning because they are expecting a heavy bullpen day on Wednesday. France gave up one run on one hit, the Pollock homer. Quantril said that ''Everything just felt a little bit out of sorts. I tried to battle but that's just not good enough. Got to find a way. Good starting pitchers find a way to get through bad days. You're not always going to throw a shutout, but you've got to give your team a chance to win, and that's just not good enough.'' Manuel Margot also had a nice day for San Diego despite the loss, taking away a homer from Cody Bellinger. He did get hit in the head by Buehler later, but he was ok and remained in the game.

Buehler dominated from the start, allowing two walks and only 3 runners made it to scoring position. In 4 starts against the Padres, he is 4-0 with a stunning 0.64 ERA, including a combined no hitter last year against San Diego in Mexico. Buehler said of his success against San Diego that ''I don't know if there's much to it, they always have a lot of right-handed hitters and being a righty, there's kind of similar things you want to see. We just want to keep it going and win division games.'' Buehler also recorded consecutive scoreless starts for the 3rd time this season.

The Padres will have a heavy bullpen day on Wednesday's series finale, with rookie righty Trey Wingenter scheduled to make his MLB debut. Kenta Maeda will get the start for the Dodgers.
