Anthony Rendon had 4 hits, Stephen Strasburg struck out 10, and the Washington Nationals swept the Chicago Cubs with a 7-5 win that took 11 innings. Juan Soto added 3 hits as the Nats completed their first sweep of the Cubs since September of 2012. The Nats outscored Chicago 23-10 in the series. Strasburg said that "we just battle until the very end."

The scoring didn't start until the 4th inning, when Rendon hit a solo homer to left field to make it 1-0. In the 5th, Addison Russell tied the game with a solo shot to left. In the 6th, Juan Soto scored on a double play, and Kris Bryant hit an RBI single to tie it at 2. In the 7th, Adam Eaton scored on a Soto infield single, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a 2 run single, and Victor Caratini homered for the Cubs to make it 5-3. In the 8th, Kyle Schwarber tied it a 5 with a clutch two run homer to left field. In the 11th inning, Howie Kendrick scored on a wild pitch, and Rendon hit an RBI single to make it 7-5.

With the sweep, the Cubs fell 4 games behind Washington for the first wild card spot in the NL. Cole Hamels went 5 innings for the Cubs, giving up two runs on 7 hits and one walk. It was Tyler Chatwood who got the loss, giving up two runs on 3 hits, as he pitched the 11th inning. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that ''They worked some tough at-bats in moments, the big difference is they weren't chasing out of the zone and we were. That's the difference in the series, primarily. I give them credit.''

Strasburg went 6 innings for the Nationals, giving up two runs on 5 hits and one walk, while striking out 10. Daniel Hudson got the win for the Nationals, working the 10th and 11th innings, and didn't give up a single hit or walk. He struck out two hitters. Manager Dave Martinez said that ''What Daniel Hudson did for us those last two innings was really incredible." Strasburg's 10 strikeouts gave him a total of 201 on the season, second most in the NL behind Jacob Degrom of the New York Mets.

The Nats get a day off on Monday, and they welcome the Baltimore Orioles from right up I-95. Patrick Corbin will get the start for the Nats, while Aaron Brooks goes for Baltimore. The Cubs also get an off day on Monday, and they head to New York to take on the Mets. Yu Darvish will start for the Cubs against Marcus Stroman.
