As a Red Sox fan, it feels so good to see the Yankees get destroyed. Jose Ramirez's grand slam led a 7 run first inning as the Cleveland Indians thrashed the New York Yankees 19-5. This 4 game series could be an ALDS preview, as Cleveland has looked unstoppable lately, and they made sure the Yankees wouldn't dismiss them. Ramirez said through a translator that "This is the type of game you remember."

After Ramirez's grand slam put Cleveland ahead 4-0, Jason Kipnis added a solo shot and Roberto Perez whacked a 2 run bomb to give starter Adam Plutko a 7-0 cushion. In the second, Ramirez added a two run shot to make it 9-1. In the 4th, Carlos Santana added two more runs to make it 11-1. In the 5th, Greg Allen added an RBI single, and Yasiel Puig had a two run single in the 7th to make it 14-4. In the 8th, Francisco Lindor singled, Allen hit a 3 run shot to right field, and Santana added another homer to make it 19-4. The Yankees got their 5th run on a Gleyber Torres solo shot in the bottom of the 8th.

Opener Chad Green got the loss for the Yankees, giving up 5 runs on 4 hits and one walk while getting just one batter out. Plutko went 6 strong innings for the Indians, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and one walk. Ramirez himself seems to be heating up, which his teammates love. Kipnis said that "When he gets on a tear, it's one of the crazier things in the entire league to watch. He really just doesn't miss." Everyone in the Indians starting lineup had at least two hits, and the whole team combined for 24 total. Manager Terry Francona said that "I thought one through nine we had a real good approach. We didn't get caught up in trying to hit the ball real far and because of that I think we were short to the ball and we end up hitting some balls out of the ballpark."

The Indians hit 7 home runs in this game, the most in franchise history since 2013, when they hit 7 homers against the Philadelphia Phillies. They scored the most runs in franchise history since last July, when they scored 19 against the Cincinnati Reds. Perez said that "Man, the guys came out swinging today. We put a lot of pressure on them." The Yankees fell to 1-3 against the Indians this season.

DH Mike Ford pitched the 9th for the Yankees, and he got everyone out, which led to big cheers from the fans still in attendance. Puig had two hits after being reinstated from a suspension from the most recent Pirates-Reds fight. He became an American Citizen yesterday in Miami. Rookie righty Aaron Civale will draw the start for game two on Friday night for Cleveland, while Masahiro Tanaka will get the start for the Yankees.
