The New York Mets are getting hot. Noah Syndergaard had a spectacular outing, and the offense backed him up and pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-2. The Mets have now won 9 of their last 10 games, and began the day 4 games back of the wild card. They could gain some ground based on what happens these next few days. They are now also one game back of .500 on the season.

The Mets jumped on the board right away, with a Michael Conforto solo home run to center field. JD Davis followed that up with a 2 run blast to left field to make it 3-0. In the 3rd, Todd Frazier and Davis each had RBI singles, and Robinson Cano ripped an RBI double to make it 6-0. In the 4th, Frazier added a two run single to make the lead 8. In the 6th, Juan Lagares ripped an RBI double, and Jeff McNeil and Lagares scored on a fielding error by Colin Moran to make it 11-0. McNeil then blasted a two run homer in the 7th to make it 13-0. Pittsburgh got a run in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI single by Moran, and again in the 9th on a Jose Osuna homer.

The Pirates are now 4-18 since the all star break and have lost 7 straight series. Starter Joe Musgrove lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up 8 runs on 10 hits. Syndergaard went 7 innings, allowing one run on 3 hits and a walk. after giving up a single in the first inning, Syndergaard didn't allow another hit until Osuna doubled in the 7th. Syndergaard also had multiple hits in a game for the first time since 2016.

The Pirates welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to town on Monday, where Dario Agrazal will get the start against former teammate Jordan Lyles, who Milwaukee traded for at the deadline. The Mets head home to Citi Field to welcome the Miami Marlins to town, where Jacob Degrom will start against Sandy Alcantara.
