The rest of baseball better hope this start was not a look at what Chris Sale will bring the rest of the season. Sale struck out 13 hitters, and allowed just two hits over 8 dominating innings as the Boston Red Sox shut out the Los Angeles Angels 3-0 in the first game of a 4 game set. In his last two starts, he combined to allow 14 runs over 9 innings pitched. The game took just two hours and 16 minutes.

In the bottom of the second inning, after a JD Martinez single, Sam Travis belted a 443 foot home run to straight away center field to make it 2-0 Boston. They didn't score again until the 5th, when Sandy Leon hit a tomahawk solo bomb onto Lansdowne street to make it 3-0 Red Sox. That score would hold for the rest of the game.

Dillon Peters took the loss for the Angels, giving up 3 runs and 5 hits over 6 innings of work. He also struck out 8. Sale allowed two hits over 8 innings. One was a Shohei Ohtani double, the other a Mike Trout single. He improved to 6-11 with the win, and walked off to a huge ovation from the Fenway crowd. Brandon Workman struck out two in the 9th for his 7th save of the year.

The Red Sox lost David Price to the 10 day IL with a wrist cyst on his left wrist. Hector Velazquez was called up from Triple A Pawtucket in place of Price. He was scheduled to start tomorrow, so the Sox are going with Brian Johnson as a starter in Price's place. He will make his 3rd start of the season. Jamie Barria will make the start for the Angels. He has lost two straight starts and 3 of his last 4.
