Astros offense on another level

The Houston Astros hitting game is on a torrid pace. Sunday afternoon, they beat the Seattle Mariners by a whopping 21-1 score, and they kept it up on Monday night against wild card contenders in the Oakland Athletics. They crushed 6 homers in the first two innings of play and destroyed Oakland 15-0. They became the first team in MLB history to hit 6 homers in the first two innings of a game.

Against Oakland's Mike Fiers, Alex Bregman got the parade started with a 3 run shot for his 35th homer of the season. Yordan Alvarez followed that up by launching a 429 foot homer to make it 4-0 early. That was Alvarez's 23rd of the season, breaking the Astros rookie record set by Carlos Correa. Robinson Chirinos followed that up with a two run homer in the second inning to make it 6-0. Michael Brantley and Jose Altuve also homered in the second inning. Chirinos hit his second homer of the night in the 7th inning.

Also in the second inning, Alvarez stepped up and absolutely launched a ball into uncharted territory in Minute Maid Park- the 3rd deck in right field. He became the first Astros player to ever hit a ball up there, and the second player in all of baseball. Jeromy Burnitz of the Milwaukee Brewers did it in 2000, when the ballpark just opened. Ironically, most of the damage was done against Fiers, who is a former Astro.

With the win, the Astros have now won 56 games at home, a club record. They have outscored opponents 36-1 the last two games, and joined the 1933 Giants as the second team to score 15-plus runs while allowing one or fewer in consecutive games. They also are the first team since the 1953 Boston Red Sox to win consecutive games by at least 15 runs.
