Kris Bryant homered twice, the Cubs offense stayed hot, and they dealt another rout to the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 16-6 score. They maintained their one game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild card race, and sit just 1 1/2 games back of the Washington Nationals for the first wild card spot. The Cubs scored a whopping 47 runs in 3 games and had 49 hits in the sweep of Pittsburgh.

In the first inning, Bryant hit his first homer of the day, a 3 run bomb to left field to make it 3-0. In the 3rd inning, Kevin Newman hit an RBI single, Bryan Reynolds hit an RBI double, Pablo Reyes hit a two run single, and Colin Moran hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 Pirates, and they chased Chicago starter Jose Quintana. In the bottom of the 3rd, Bryant homered for the second time, Victor Caratini hit a sac fly, Tony Kemp hit a two run triple, and scored on a failed pickoff attempt to make it 8-5. In the 4th, Newman scored on a Reyes groundout to make it 8-6 Cubs. In the bottom of the 4th, Kyle Schwarber hit an RBI single, and Caratini hit another sac fly to make it 10-6 Cubs.    Anthony Rizzo had to be helped off the field after spraining his right ankle on a throw to first base. The Cubs have already lost Javier Baez for the season, and there is no timetable for Rizzo's return. Manager Joe Maddon said that ''We're gonna miss Riz, we already miss Javy, but I really believe the rest of the group is up to the task." Brad Wieck got the win for the Cubs, going 2/3 of an inning and striking out two hitters with no runs allowed. Tyler Chatwood pitched 3 innings, the longest by a Cubs pitcher in the game.

Trevor Williams got the loss for the Pirates, lasting just 2 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Michael Feliz finished the 3rd for Williams. Josh Bell missed his second straight game and Starling Marte missed his 7th straight for Pittsburgh.

The Pirates head back home to face the Seattle Mariners, where Mitch Keller will start the opening game. The Cubs welcome the Cincinnati Reds to town, where Cole Hamels will start the first game.
