Franmil Reyes homered, Mike Clevinger dominated, and the Cleveland Indians shut out the Detroit Tigers 7-0 for their 17th straight win against Detroit this season, and 18th of the year. With the Tampa Bay Rays idle Thursday night, Cleveland moved into a tie with Tampa for the second AL wild card spot. They remain 4 games back of the Minnesota Twins in the AL central. Manager Terry Francona said that ''We need more. I don't know how many more, but I'm guessing we'll need several more.''

Carlos Santana hit a sac fly to left field that scored Francisco Lindor and made it 1-0 Cleveland in the first inning. In the 4th, Yasiel Puig hit an RBI double and Reyes hit a two run homer to make it 4-0. In the 5th, Oscar Mercado hit an RBI single, and Roberto Perez added a two run single to make it 7-0.

Clevinger threw 6 scoreless innings, allowing 7 hits and one walk. He struck out 6 hitters. Tyler Clippard, James Hoyt, and James Karinchak finished the game in relief of Clevinger. Clevinger is 11-1 with a 1.89 ERA in his last 15 starts. He said after the game that ''We won a game, but we've got to win every game right now, so, that's the way we're looking at it going into each day.'' This is the 15th time this season that the Indians have shut out a team.

Daniel Norris took the loss for the Tigers, lasting 3 innings. He gave up one run on 3 hits and no walks. He struck out just one hitter. Drew VerHagen, Edwin Jackson, Matt Hall, and Victor Alcantara finished the game. This is the 14th time Detroit has been shut out this season. The Tigers dropped to a god awful 45-107 with the loss.

The Tigers head home to Comerica Park, where they will face the Chicago White Sox for a 3 game weekend series. Jordan Zimmerman will start the first game for Detroit. Zimmerman is seeking his first win since July 29. The Indians welcome NL wild card contenders in the Philadelphia Phillies for 3 games. Shane Bieber will start the first game for Cleveland.
