Kurt Suzuki capped the largest comeback in Washington Nationals history in crazy fashion. Suzuki hit the walk off 3 run homer as the Nats came back from 6 runs down to shock the New York Mets 11-10 on Tuesday night. The 3 Mets pitchers who worked the 9th inning only got one out. Veteran Ryan Zimmerman said that ''It's been a crazy year, that's the only way to sum it up. For me, for the team, for everyone. It kind of fits into the narrative, I guess.''

The Nats got a lead in the first inning on a Juan Soto RBI double to make it 1-0. In the 4th inning, the Mets took the lead on an RBI double by Wilson Ramos, a sac fly by Brandon Nimmo, and a two run homer by Joe Panik. In the 6th, Suzuki cut the lead with an RBI single. In the 8th, Jeff McNeil hit a solo homer and Soto hit a two run homer. In the top of the 9th, Nimmo hit a solo shot, McNeil hit a two run single, and Pete Alonso hit a two run bomb to make it 10-4. In the bottom half, Trea Turner doubled in one, Anthony Rendon hit an RBI single, Zimmerman doubled two runs in, and Suzuki hit the game ender.

Javy Guerra got the win for the Nats, pitching 1/3 of an inning. Starter Max Scherzer went 6 innings and got a no decision. Nats manager Dave Martinez said to fans ''Thank you for staying." Washington is the first team to allow 5 or more runs in the top of the 9th and get even more in the bottom for a walk off since the Boston Red Sox in 1962 against the Washington Senators.

Paul Sewald, Luis Avilan, and Edwin Diaz worked the 9th for the Mets, and Diaz took the loss as he gave up the 3 run homer to end it. Nimmo said that ''It kind of just seemed like a bad dream, I don't know. That's hard to do even in a Little League game I feel like, come back from six runs down in the bottom of the ninth against guys throwing 99 mph. I don't really have words for it.'' Mickey Callaway took out Seth Lugo after he finished the 8th inning. Lugo typically works two innings, but Callaway felt the lead was safe enough to use another pitcher. He said that ''We had a six-run lead, major league pitchers got to be able to hold that."

The series finale took place this afternoon, and the Mets won 8-4 as Zack Wheeler got the win and Anibal Sanchez took the loss.
