The Minnesota Twins have placed OF Byron Buxton on the 60 day IL, and he is expected to be out for 5-6 months, effectively ending his season. Buxton will undergo labrum surgery on Thursday, manager Rocco Baldelli announced. The injury is officially announced as a left shoulder subluxation, according to Baldelli. This leaves the Twins without their best defender for the stretch run.

Buxton was initially placed on the 10 day IL on August 1, but was activated when rosters expanded on September 1, serving as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. He first sustained the injury crashing into the outfield wall in Miami. He had problems with his shoulder in a late August rehab assignment, which was halted after he experienced pain during batting practice. Buxton will finish the season with a .262 average with 10 homers, 46 RBI, and 14 stolen bases. The Twins also activated pitcher Kyle Gibson from the 10 day IL. He will start on Thursday night.
