   NYY leads series 2-0

Didi Gregorius hit a grand slam, Masahiro Tanaka had a good game, and the New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 8-2. The Twins still cannot beat the Yankees, at least for the time being. They have lost their 12th straight playoff game against New York, and 15th straight overall. Gregorius's slam broke game two wide open for New York.

In the first, Edwin Encarnacion got the Yanks on the board with an RBI single. In the 3rd, Giancarlo Stanton hit a sac fly, Gleyber Torres hit an RBI single, Gregorius hit the long grand slam, and Brett Gardner hit an RBI single to make it 8-0. The Twins got a run in the 4th and a run in the 9th, but it was too little too late.

Randy Dobnak struggled for Minnesota, going two innings and giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and two walks. Devin Smeltzer had the longest outing for a Minnesota pitcher, going 3 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and 3 walks on no runs. Manager Rocco Baldelli still has hope, saying that ''Our guys know that we can turn it around."

Tanaka went 5 innings for the Yankees, giving up one run on 3 hits and a walk. He struck out 7 hitters on the way to the win. Tommy Kahnle, Adam Ottavino, Tyler Lyons, and Jonathan Loaisiga finished for the Yanks. Tanaka said that ''I actually don't get too caught up on being good in the postseason and all that, my thing is just go out there and be the best that you can be, compete.''

The series shifts to Minnesota for at least a game 3 on Monday night, where the Twins will look to avoid a sweep and win a playoff game for the first time since 2004. Jake Odorizzi will start for the Twins, while Luis Severino will look to pitch the Yankees into the ALCS.
