   NYY wins series 3-0

Gleyber Torres homered, Didi Gregorius drove in two runs, and the New York Yankees advanced to the ALCS with a 5-1 win to sweep the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota's playoff futility will continue for at least another year. In addition to his homer, Torres also made two great defensive plays, leading DJ Lemahieu to say that ''He's a really special player, no moment's too big for him.''

The scoring started in the second when Torres hit his homer to left field. Minnesota asked for review to determine if there was fan interference, and the call as a home run stood, making it 1-0 Yankees. In the 3rd, Brett Gardner hit an RBI single, and Gregorius hit one in the 7th to make it 3-0. In the bottom of the 8th, Eddie Rosario got the Twins on the board with a solo homer to straightaway center field. In the 9th, Gregorius hit another RBI single, and Cameron Maybin hit a solo homer to make it 5-1.

Yankee starter Luis Severino went 4 innings, giving up no runs on 4 hits and two walks. Chad Green got the win, going 1 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on two hits. Gregorius said that ''All we did was to go out there and play our best baseball." The Yankees have now won 13 straight playoff games against the Twins. Torres said that ''We're focused already to the second series."

Jake Odorizzi got the loss for Minnesota, giving up two runs on 5 hits and no walks over 5 innings. The Twins became the first 100 win team to get swept in the division series, and are 2-16 against the Yankees in the playoffs lifetime, including 13 straight losses. Manager Rocco Baldelli said that ''Our guys should be walking out of that clubhouse with our heads held high, and they never stopped playing, we got beat over the last three days, and there's no way around that. That's going to happen from time to time, but what an amazing season it was.''

The ALCS will start on Saturday, and the Yankees await the winner of the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays series. Minnesota just gets another winter of disappointment. I mean, there's always the Wild and Timberwolves.
