Alonso, Alvarez win rookie of the year

   New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has won the National League Rookie of the year award, according to the baseball writers association of America(BBWAA). Alonso set an MLB rookie home run record with the Mets, slugging 53 on the season. Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Soroka finished second in voting, while San Diego Padres SS Fernando Tatis Jr finished 3rd in voting. Alonso received 29 first place votes, one short of unanimous first place.

   Houston Astros LF/DH Yordan Alvarez has won the American League Rookie of the year award, according to the BBWAA. Alvarez was the winner by a unanimous count of 30 votes. He made his debut on June 9th, and has been tearing up baseballs ever since. He had a bit of a rough postseason, but he did homer in the world series. In fact, his first hit was a two run homer. He hit .313 with 27 homers in 87 games played. Orioles pitcher John Means took home second place, and Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe got 3rd.
