The New York Mets have hired Carlos Beltran to be their next manager. Beltran was one of many candidates in the running after they fired Mickey Callaway after two seasons. Callaway has now joined the Angels staff. Beltran has a 3 year contract with a club option for a 4th year. Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said in a statement that "Congratulations to Carlos. We are thrilled, as we know our passionate fans will be, to have him back in the family, thanks to Brodie Van Wagenen and the entire baseball operations staff on this expansive, diverse, and collaborative managerial search process."

Beltran will be introduced as manager on Monday at 11:00 AM. Beltran beat out former Miami Marlins hitting coach Eduardo Perez, Washington Nationals first base coach Tim Bogar, and Milwaukee Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy. Beltran wasn't a strong candidate at first, but his second interview with the team changed the momentum of the race, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Before he was hired, Beltran was working as a special adviser with the New York Yankees. Beltran had a 20 year MLB career, 7 of which were spent with the Mets. 5 of those years, he was an all star. He retired after the 2017 season, following a world series win as a member of the Houston Astros. Some other managerial hires this offseason have been Joe Maddon to the Angels, Jayce Tingler to the Padres, Mike Matheny to the Royals, Joe Girardi to the Phillies, and David Ross to the Cubs.
