Angels sign Teheran

The Los Angeles Angels have signed RHP Julio Teheran to a one year, $9 million deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Angels have signed Teheran and traded for RHP Dylan Bundy so far this winter, and more pitching moves are expected from the Angels as they try and push towards the playoffs. If they don't add any more pitching, Teheran, Bundy, Andrew Heaney, Shohei Ohtani, and Griffin Canning are the 5 most likely pitchers to be in the rotation to start 2020. That would change if they signed someone else.

Teheran, who made 6 straight opening day starts for the Atlanta Braves, had his $12 million option for 2020 declined earlier in the offseason. His option being declined wasn't surprising after he was left off the Braves NLDS roster. Teheran was added to the roster after Chris Martin got injured in game one. Teheran had an appearance in game 4, and took the loss in that game. Teheran struggled in 2019, having a higher walk rate and less velocity than in recent years. He did have an 8 game stretch in May and June where he posted an amazing 0.81 ERA and didn't allow a homer over 44 innings pitched. Teheran has a career 77-73 record with a 3.67 ERA in 229 games. He was a part of the Braves since 2013, making two all star games in between 2013 and 2019.
