The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed OF Kole Calhoun to a two year, $16 million deal, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com. Calhoun is a native of Arizona and went to college at Arizona State, where he excelled before being drafted. There is a $9 million option for the 2022 season with a $2 million buyout. He'll make $6 million in 2020 and $8 million in 2021. Calhoun spent the first 8 years of his career with the Los Angeles Angels.

Calhoun has largely been known for his terrific skills with the glove. He won a gold glove in 2015 thanks to some great defensive work in right field, his main position. While being known for his defense, he had a solid year at the plate in 2019, hitting .232 with 33 homers and 74 RBI over 152 games played. His $14 million option was declined by the Angels after the season.

Calhoun will become the everyday right fielder in Arizona, rounding out a solid defensive outfield that includes gold glove winning left fielder David Peralta and MVP candidate Ketel Marte in center field and second base. He will also be counted on to improve the team's hitting, as he should slot in around the 5 or 6 spot in the batting order. Calhoun is a career .249 hitter with 140 homers and 451 RBI in his 8 year career. Calhoun was previously pursued by the Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cincinnati Reds before signing with Arizona.
