Baseball's non tender deadline was yesterday. Teams that tender a certain list of players contracts will be sent to arbitration if they can't agree on a deal. If a player on that list isn't tendered a contract, they will become a free agent. Here are some notable names that were non tendered.

The Houston Astros have non tendered RHP Aaron Sanchez, the team announced Monday night. He was acquired at the trade deadline along with Joe Biagini and Cal Stevenson from the Toronto Blue Jays. In his first start with Houston, he threw 6 innings of a combined no hitter. He made just 3 more starts before undergoing season ending shoulder surgery. He was a big part of Toronto's postseason run in 2015, but injuries have slowed his progress. He is expected to miss the start of the 2020 season. He posted a 5.89 ERA this season.

The Chicago Cubs have non tendered SS Addison Russell, the team announced Monday night. He was suspended 40 games at the end of 2018 for violating MLB's domestic violence policy. GM Theo Epstein said that "We decided to non-tender Addison Russell today simply because the role we expected him to play for the 2020 Cubs was inconsistent with how he would have been treated in the salary arbitration process." He went on to say that Russell has "lived up to his promise to put in the important self-improvement work necessary off the field and has shown growth as a person, as a partner, as a parent, and as a citizen." He hit .237 with 9 homers and two stolen bases with the Cubs last year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have non tendered OF Steven Souza Jr and RHP Taijuan Walker, the team announced Monday. Souza had bad luck with injuries, only playing 72 games in 2018, and missing all of 2019. He hit just .220 with 5 homers in his D-Backs tenure. Walker was a main cog of the playoff run in 2017, but missed most of 2018 and all of 2019 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He did make one appearance in 2019, throwing one inning in the season finale. He's thrown 14 innings combined in the last two years.

The Oakland Athletics have non tendered RHP Blake Treinen, the team announced Monday. He had a breakout season in 2018, with a nasty 0.78 ERA, but lost the closers spot in 2019, posting a 4.91 ERA. He was rumored in trades, but was never dealt. Jurickson Profar was traded, going to the San Diego Padres. Josh Phegley and Ryan Buchter were also non tendered.

The San Francisco Giants have non tendered OF Kevin Pillar, the team announced Monday. He was acquired in April from the Toronto Blue Jays. Pillar hit .259 with 21 homers and 87 RBI in a breakout year at the plate. He has been widely known as a top tier defensive talent. GM Farhan Zaidi said that "It was a difficult decision. It was a baseball decision, not a financial decision, we want to make sure that we can provide the opportunity to some of our younger outfielders who have emerged over the last year." Pillar, Tyler Anderson, Rico Garcia, and Joey Rickard were all non tendered by the Giants.
