The Los Angeles Angels have signed 3B Anthony Rendon to a 7 year, $245 million deal, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Rendon has a full no trade clause and no opt outs. The deal is the largest contract given out in free agency by the Angels. Rendon is also making the most money per year for a 3B in MLB history. The Angels shifted all their resources to Rendon after missing out on Gerrit Cole, and it worked. The Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Texas Rangers were previously interested in Rendon.

Rendon's big bat joins an Angels lineup that includes MVP Mike Trout, OF Justin Upton, two way star Shohei Ohtani, and defensive master SS Andrelton Simmons. Rendon had his best season in 2019, hitting .319 with 34 homers and 126 RBI in the regular season. He stepped it up in the playoffs, coming up with some clutch hits to lead the Nats to the world series. He was also named to his first all star game this Summer. The Angels probably aren't done spending, as they've been linked to pitchers Hyun-Jin Ryu, Madison Bumgarner, and Dallas Keuchel.

Angels GM Billy Eppler said in a statement that "We're within some structure of a budget and a payroll forecast that you relatively want to be near, and then we just take those opportunities to Arte and see if he'll grant us the permission to do those things, there's good players out there and players that warrant some sizable contracts. I know the players that he likes." Rendon was drafted 6th overall in the 2011 draft by the Nationals.
