The Detroit Tigers have signed 1B CJ Cron and 2B Jonathan Schoop to one year, $6.1 million deals, according to the Tigers. Cron and Schoop will add some pop to Detroit's lineup, which ranked last in the AL in homers in 2019. Both will earn $6.1 million. They were teammates in 2019, playing for the Minnesota Twins, who led the league in homers. Schoop hit free agency after the season, while Cron was surprisingly non tendered by the Twins and hit free agency as well.

Tigers executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager Al Avila said of the signings that "Adding Jonathan and C.J. is a step towards accomplishing our offseason goal of making the ballclub better heading into the 2020 season, we're  excited to have them join our organization, and we expect both players will inject significant power to our lineup. Defensively, C.J. will provide stability at first base, while Jonathan will lead the middle of our infield."

Schoop will be the everyday 2B for Detroit, who used Josh Harrison, Gordon Beckham, Harold Castro, and Ronny Rodriguez there last season, ranking worst at production from second base. Schoop hit .256 with 23 homers over 121 games last year with the Twins. Cron hit .253 with 25 homers for the Twins. In 2018, he hit 30 with the Tampa Bay Rays.
