Strasburg returns to Nats

Stephen Strasburg is staying put. The Washington Nationals have signed Strasburg to a 7 year, $245 million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Strasburg will get a full no trade clause with the deal. Strasburg's contract smashes the previous record high for a pitcher, which was David Price's $217 million. It will be the highest contract probably until Gerrit Cole signs. Strasburg will also earn $35 million per year.

After being a key figure in helping the Nats win their first ever world series, Strasburg opted out of his remaining 4 years and $100 million left with the franchise, becoming a free agent. He also rejected the qualifying offer he was extended. Because he re-signed with the Nats, they won't have any change in their draft position in June. Strasburg finished 5th in NL Cy Young voting after posting a 3.32 ERA and leading the NL in wins with 18.

Strasburg has been with the Nats his entire career, being selected with the first overall pick in the 2009 draft. He debuted a year later, and struck out 14 in his debut. He only got better from there. He was controversially shut down before the 2012 playoffs, but all that was erased when he helped the Nats to a championship. Strasburg is 112-58 with a 3.17 ERA in his career, which includes 3 all star game nominations.
