The Minnesota Twins have signed LHP Rich Hill and RHP Homer Bailey to one year deals, according to the team. Hill is currently recovering from surgery on his elbow and isn't expected to return until June. Hill has been injured a lot, including several dust ups with blisters on his throwing hand. Hill had an effective 2019 when he was healthy, going 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 13 starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hill will make $3 million in guaranteed money, and could earn up to $9.5 million in bonuses.

Bailey will earn $7 million guaranteed, and there are performance bonuses attached to his deal. Bailey had a bounceback season in 2019, going 13-9 with a 4.57 ERA in 31 starts. He spent 2019 with the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics. ERA has always been a problem for Bailey, as he has a 5.56 ERA over 77 starts since the 2015 season.

The Twins lost out on free agent targets like Madison Bumgarner, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Dallas Keuchel, so Bailey and Hill will be counted on to provide depth and stability in the back of their rotation. Both Hill and Michael Pineda won't be in the rotation to start the year, as Pineda is serving a suspension, so there will be uncertainty at the start of the season. By the time they get back, they should be able to stabilize the back of the starting rotation.
