The Kansas City Royals have signed OF Alex Gordon to a one year, $4 million deal, according to the team. Gordon's press conference will be on Friday at Royals fanfest. Gordon will return to play left field for the Royals, with Whit Merrifield in center field and Hunter Dozier in right. Bubba Starling and Brett Phillips also figure to be in the mix for outfield playing time as well.

Royals GM Dayton Moore said of bringing Gordon back that "He is one of the most driven players in the game today, he represents everything the league wants in a player. He can still play at a high level, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win. He is the player that everyone strives to be." Dozier said of the signing that "We are thrilled to have Gordo back, he's the leader of our clubhouse, and it’s really important to have guys like him around when you have a young team like we do." Merrifield added that "I can’t tell you how excited we are to have Gordo back. Probably the second-greatest player to ever wear a Royals uniform. What he means to this team and this city goes beyond numbers. He instantly makes any team better, and I’m so pumped we got him back."

Gordon was drafted second overall by the Royals in 2005, and has spent his entire career with the Royals. Last year, he hit .266 with 13 homers and 76 RBI in the final season of a 4 year, $72 million deal he signed with the Royals in January of 2016. He won his 7th career gold glove last season in left field. Gordon is a career .258 hitter with 186 homers and 758 RBI in his Royals tenure. Gordon has been named to 3 all star games and won the platinum glove in 2014 as the AL's best defensive outfielder.
